Lake County Native Dan Quick Races For a Seat On the Board

Within nearly every group, there’s almost always one that stands out. And that’s especially true within Lake County. The recent census prompted the formation of a new district, District 17. Dan Quick, who has resided in southwestern Lake County for all of his life, has decided to continue his dedication to his home county.

Dan Quick is a non-incumbent in the race for a seat on the Lake County Board. He began a career in law enforcement as a Patrol Officer with the Wauconda Police Department in 1982. After achieving his tenure with the Department and being appointed Chief of Police in 1999, Quick accepted the Village Board’s appointment to the position of Village Administrator in 2002 where he continued to serve until his retirement during the recent Spring of 2011.

In furthering his commitment to the well-being of his community, Dan Quick volunteers his time to various professional organizations. Quick’s involvement includes being ‘President of the Wauconda Community School District #118 Board of Education as well as being on the Wauconda Park District Board of Trustees and the Wauconda Area Chamber of Commerce. In addition to his activities, Quick takes great pride in his involvement of thirteen years as a member of the Wauconda Fire Department, and ultimately served on their Board of Directors for eight years.

Dan Quick took a moment with Lake Zurich News to talk briefly about a few points of interest to him and to the residents of Lake County. With regards to issues affecting current federal government, Quick comments, “…People hate what’s happening to our government…” and went on to say, “…revenue has to meet expenditures.” On his site, Quick iterates that government must “…learn to live within it’s means.”

As a life-long resident of Lake County, Quick experiences the same traffic issues that plagues commuters across the county.  He sits on the Route 120 Thruway/Bypass Technical Advisory Committee and advocates for the Hwy 120 By-Pass that would start in Grayslake, end in Volo, and would intersect with the proposed extended portion of Hwy 53, for which Quick is also an advocate. With regards to the extension of Hwy 53, Quick indicated that the project would be, ‘years off’ on the list of infrastructure improvements. Quick also indicated that the project has a positive public approval rating by greater than 70% and would be funded in part by the Illinois Toll-way Authority.

With the hot summer months come the watering restrictions. Wauconda has faced concerns with the Superfund site as a result of improper handling of toxic that took place decades ago.  Quick has participated for the past four years on the North-West Lake County Lake Michigan Water Planning Group. According to Quick, ‘four wells in Wauconda require radium-removal.’ Water-treatment is not uncommon for local communities as they either share underground aquifers or source from surrounding supplies. Quick commented that the Great Lake’s system is, “the largest body of freshwater in the world…the sustainability is far better.” Interested communities for Lake Michigan water would include, Lake Zurich, Wauconda, Volo, Fox Lake, Lake Villa, Antioch, Parts of Unincorporated Lake County, Old Mill Creek and Lindenhurst. Quick indicated that all of these towns, “…have their own issues as to why they need Lake Michigan Water…” and that it, “…might strengthen wells for existing private residents.”

The election for Lake County Board will take place on March 20, 2012. Lake County residents can VISIT HERE to learn more about Dan Quick.
