2011 Homecoming, Showing Off School Spirit
As we finish up Homecoming week, we look back on how Wauconda High School students used this opportunity to demonstrate their school spirit. For example, one event that involved more than just the students was the window painting held on Main Street. With this event, businesses on Main Street gave each class their own window for decorating, either in their class colors, or just something to show their spirit.
Wauconda High School held many different events to further the excitement of homecoming, ranging from float building to the chalk wash. One event held throughout the week was the Ultimate Frisbee tournament. Students created their own teams, keeping to the required number of boys as girls in order to keep things fair. In the championship game, team “Eat Your Veggies’ faced off in a close game and claimed victory over team “Tribe”.
To continue this week’s homecoming events, Homecoming Queen Sabrina DiMaso, and King, Pete Merker, were crowned during half time at the Friday night soccer game.
Saturday morning kicked off the annual homecoming parade. Floats from past graduating classes and the youth Bulldog teams were included amongst high school sports teams, as well as a special appearance by Miss Wauconda. Later that afternoon, the excitement continued over to the football game. Although the score was close and the team spirit was high, Wauconda experienced defeat from Round Lake High School 17-14. Homecoming week officially ended later that night at the Homecoming dance, held at Wauconda High School.
