Wauconda's Got Talent
On Saturday December 17, the Wauconda High School Varsity Club hosted their second annual talent show. Members Kimmy Bower and Jessica Grens acted as the MCs for the night introducing all twenty-one acts. Admission for the event was $3. Varsity Club asked the Varsity athletic teams at Wauconda High School to write them a letter explaining why they deserved the money earned from the talent show the most. Coming in first, and receiving the money was the soccer team. In second place, which still received some money to help their program was the varsity cheerleaders.
The talent show gave many students the opportunity to showcase their unusual talents, while some chose to share more frequently seen talents, such as singing, others chose the less obvious choice.
Connor Ciesil played his ukulele while his partner whistled along to the tune of “Baby It’s Cold Outside”. The audience was impressed with their ability to hum while maintaining the melody of the song perfectly.
Another act, which made an impression on the audience, was Kyle Waltenburg and Aaron Swearingen. Lip-syncing to Justin Bieber’s featuring Jayden Smith “Never Say Never,” the crowd was enthralled the entire time. Although, looking and acting like Bieber may have won over the crowd, it did not catch the attention of the judges.
Another crowd favorite was the pop medley of Dylan Knee and Alec Denecke. Their pop medley included "Baby" by Justin Bieber, "Friday" by Rebecca Black, and "The Only Exception" by Paramore.
The final act of the night, and the one that the judges “flipped” for, was the performance of extreme martial artist Cris Argomaniz. Standing back flips, aerials, and round-offs were just a few tricks he included in his act. Overall, his performance was very impressive.
