The Robert J. Tumilson Basketball
Invitational tipped off Friday on March 13 at 5:00 pm. The event was run by
Don and Vicki Tumilson of Island Lake in memory of their son Robert Josef
who died on March 7, 2004 due to complications from premature birth. The
event was held as a fundraiser for the March of Dimes and the American
Cancer Society. If it wasn't for the many volunteers that helped at the
score tables, concessions, and admissions, this event would not have run as
well as it did and to that The Tumilson's are very grateful. It is during
these events when people come together to help for such a great cause that
really restores your faith in humanity and we will never know how to truely
thank all volunteers! (Vicki Tumilson). On Saturday at 3:00 pm there was a
speed and agility demonstration that was provided by Rick Nolte of Anytime
Fitness in Lakemoor. Not only did he provide a demonstration but he also
invited those attending to 'try out' the various skills! On Sunday, March
15, the event concluded with the trophy games. Marian Central won the 5th
and 6th grade championships, Warren won the 7th grade championship and
Hampshire won the 8th grade championship. Grant was awarded the 8th grade
sportsmanship award, Warren was awarded the 7th grade sportsmanship award
and Marian Central was awarded the 6th grade sportsmanship award. The 5th
grade sportsmanship award is undecided. We believe that it is just as
important to demonstration good sportsmanship not only by the players but by
the parents of the teams and to treat everyone, officials, scorekeepers and
clock runners with respect and dignity. We like to recognize those teams
and to encourage all teams along with their parents to demonstrate good
sportsmanship in whatever sport you participate in! Throughout the weekend,
there were four sessions held for a 3-point and Free Throw shooting
contest. Awards for the Free Throw contest in the Women's division were won
by Erin Manning-3 (11 & under age group), Kylah Connins-6 (12-15 age group),
Ashley Kenady-8 (16-24 age group) and Vicki Tumilson-5 (25 & over age
group). In the Men's Division of the Free Throw contest, awards went to
Logan Card-13 (11 & under age group), Michael Krich and Mike Burns-15 (12-15
age group), Connor Dimick-12 (16-24 age group) and Chuck Black-15 (25 & over
age group). In the 3-point shooting contest, the women's division awards
went to Ashley Kenady-3 (16-24 age
group) and Vicki Tumilson-4 (25 & over age group). The men's division awards went to James Bongiovanni-11 (11 & under age group), Austin Swenson-13 (12-15 age group), Connor Dimick-9 (16-24 age group) and Justin Hanlin-11 (25 & over age group). We would like to thank everyone that participated and volunteered for this event and we look forward to the 6th Annual Robert J. Tumilson Basketball Invitation to be held in March of 2010! |
