Mead signs with Lewis University
Lauren Mead, a senior at Wauconda High School signed a letter of intent to attend Lewis University on a four year full ride scholarship for basketball. Mead, of Wauconda, has played on the girls’ varsity basketball team all four years of high-school, earning all conference honors each year. She was a part of last year’s Regional Championship team. A talented athlete and student, Lauren is the daughter of Gayle and Jack Mead. Mead earned All-Conference honors in volleyball the past ___ years. This season, she set the single season kill record as a left-side hitter. She was part of the most successful team in school’s history which included six other seniors. The volleyball team won 21 matches in a row, setting an Illinois High School Association record. Their final record was 29-7 including winning the Prairie Division of the North Suburban Conference with a perfect 6-0 record. She was even state champ in the high jump in eighth grade. Said Mead at the signing: “I’m looking forward to the whole college experience, playing at a higher level and getting to know all my teammates.” Mead played year-round basketball with Full Package Athletics, Inc. She has been playing with them since 7th grade. Full Package is considered the most complete travel basketball program in the Midwest. Lauren says she is also looking forward to playing against some of her Full Package teammates. Lauren is also an outstanding student, earning a 3.9 grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) and scoring a 27 on the ACT college placement test. Her schedule currently includes Advanced Placement (AP) Calculus, and Honors Spanish IV. Mead plans to study nursing at Lewis. In choosing Lewis, Lauren will be playing NCAA Division II. While she had interest from Division I schools, Lauren liked the college and the coaches. Lewis also has one of the top nursing programs in the Midwest having a College of Nursing & Health Professions that offers both baccalaureate and master’s degrees. Located in Romeoville, it is close enough for her family and friends to watch some games and WHS Head Coach Jaime Weber stated it might make for a good basketball field trip. The WHS girls basketball season starts Monday, November 17th. Mead is ready to relax and have fun and close out what has been and will continue to be a stellar high school career. It will be a chance for the community to see one of our best basketball players in action.
