Route 176 blocked due to "possible explosive device"

On the night  of June 29 Route 176 was blocked off due to a "possible explosive device," the Wauconda Police Department said.

The possibility came to light during a joint drug investigation between the Wauconda police department and the Lake County Metropolitan Enforcement Group.  The center of activity is the apartment complex at 660 Liberty St.

Waukegan's hazardous materials team were sent to assist the Wauconda police department.

Multiple police and fire department trucks were used to form a perimeter around the area, blocking neighbors from getting to their home and causing others to make detours to get to and from town.  Some residents were waiting from 7 p.m. for hours, many leaving to find another place to stay.

The Wauconda police department has not made a formal statement to the press at this time.
