Wauconda Thrift Shop Grand Re-Opening

The Village of Wauconda is proud to mark its one year

Mayor Salvatore Saccomanno, “The current
Village Board recognizes the importance of properly maintaining
our infrastructure, most of which is underground and not visible
to our residents.

Wauconda Girl Scout Troop #1585 did "reverse" trick or treating
at the Wauconda HealthCare & Rehabilitation Centre yesterday.
The girls wore costumes and gave treats (pictures the girls had
made and socks)
to the patients at the Centre.

The Local Boy Scout Troup Helped with the Pledge of
Allegiance
at the Wauconda Village Board Meeting last Week. 
Wauconda's American Legion Post 911 annual "Arts and
Craft Show" took place November 1 and 2. Local Talent
had a chance to display their art work. Many attended this
popular annual event.

Wauconda Public Works Department get first load of salt for
the up comming
winter ice and snow removal.

Transfiguration held on to win 43-41 in front of packed house to keep the
first Championship Trophy from leaving Wauconda.

Lauren Mead, a senior at Wauconda High School signed a
letter of intent to attend Lewis University on a four year full
ride
scholarship for
basketball. Mead, of Wauconda, has
played on
the girls’ varsity basketball team all four years of
high-school, earning all conference honors each year.

Sunday Nov.9th the Northern Illinois Scholarship Program was held
at the civic Building in Round Lake. 2 of our own local girls took
the two highest
titles available. Jordan King a Jr. at Wauconda High
School was crowned
Miss
Supreme Star Queen and Megan Ringel
a student at Wauconda Middle School was crowned Junior
Supreme Star Queen. Megan also received the Judges highest score
for her interview. Both girls also walked away with numerous 1st
and 2nd place honors in categories such essays,
posters, and talent.
NISP is a program devoted to community service while
teaching values to young women.

The WHS Varsity AND Sophomore Girls Basketball
teams won the Marion Central Thanksgiving classic.

Girl Scout troops #1586 and #452 donated Thanksgiving
baskets to the Wauconda Township for distribution to
families in the area.

3 girls from Sheryl Ringel's Girl Scout Troop 824 this past Wed.
11-19-08
reported to the Wauconda Township on how their coat
drive went. The troop
collected over 150 coats and warm accessories
from their coat drive .
Coats were passed out and distributed though out Wauconda Township. Spring
jackets were packed away and to be
passed out to the needy at the Business
Expo in Feb. (Girls Are: Megan

The American Legion Auxilliary served their annual Veterans
Christmas Party to 50 veterans from the VA Hospital.

Wauconda Middle School and Matthews Middle School 8th

during
their One for Books Change Wars Drive. That
change will be used to purchase more books and equipment for
our library.

The Wauconda 26th Annual Triathlon had about 303 competitors who
participated in the race.

Former President Abraham Lincoln spoke with visitors before the battle and
gave a speech to the entire crowd after it.

There was a gun slinging shoot out on main street this week! Shaun Mann,
David Drake, Jim Schneider, Bill Glade, and Brian Conrad staged a gunfight

In anticipation of the greatest fireworks show in Northern Illinois,
residents prep for the annual Fourth of July festivities explosions, and
the magnificent display of pyrotechnics.

Wauconda Fest has started(June 25 - 30)! Infinity played to a shoulder to
shoulder crowd on Friday night. Cover songs from famous "Eighties" bands
like Journey, Great White, Jon Bon Jovi and Judas Priest were Done.

its Chamber of Commerce(June 30, 2009), but it is not because there is no
more work to do there. Just the opposite, in fact: There is too much work
for one person to handle that job as well as well as acting as the
Economic Development Coordinator of Wauconda.

Docks Bar and Grill is set to deliver more space and more live music June
14, when the restaurant is set to open its new deck. Construction by
Lankford Construction of the deck began April 20th, and the 6,600 square
foot space will soon be finished. The deck, which features a 40'x15' Tiki
Bar, will be the site of music from Mr. Myers. The style of the Chicago
band mixes elements of reggae, rock and roll, calypso, and ska to give a
"no worries" atmosphere.
The deck also has an area where visitors can play "Baggo," a competitive

WHS Winter Sports Awards, Scott Carlson State Champion (152Lbs) Accepting
One of the Teams most valuable honors

We wish to announce the engagement of our daughter Alison Joy Dorsey,
daughter of Neal Dorsey and Deborah (Gray) Dorsey (from Wauconda),
to Sean Ryan Woitas, son of Dave Woitas and Kathi (Chapleau) Woitas(from
Island Lake). They have a wedding planned for September
4th, 2009 at the Evangelical Free Church of Wauconda.

The WHS Special Olympics team presented two awards to Athletic
Director Jim Van Fleet and WHS Principal Daniel Klett.

Wauconda School Board (District#118) recognizes Nina Grudt one of
whom is a member of the "38 Illinois State Scholars" from this years
senior class

The Poms are doing a fundraiser on January 30th. The
Varsity Team, the
JV Team, the Middle School and Matthews School Poms
and the new
Man Poms of WHS. (Yes, a team of 20 or more guys) This will be an
hour show of the
many great dances that we do during the year.
The show
will be called "Dancing with the Teams".The time is 7:00pm,
it will be held
in the competition gym. The cost is only $5.00.

The girls cheerleading took 1st place in the Medium Varsity division of
the Cheerleading contest at Elk Grove High School last Saturday.

Matt Stonis, Gibson Gaite, Chris Woolridge, Bradon Prate and Brian
Wisniewski set up on defense against North Chicago.

WHS Poms perform at a recent basketball game. "They qualified
for state in the lyrical division at their first competition. It's hard to
qualify
for state, let alone in the first competition. That just shows
how good they
are."
According to their coach Monica Jablonski.

The WHS Varsity Girls Basketball team placed 2nd of 16 teams
in the Northern Illinois Holiday Classic. The girls are currently
12-1 overall and undefeated in conference play

Wauconda Grade School adopts Wauconda families instead of doing
their "Secret Snowman" staff gift exchange.

Hayden Manahan builds a better mouse trap at the Robert Crown
Invention Convention. The 5th grade students showed off their
creativity and skill by inventing products to make life easier
and, in some cases, tastier!

The WHS Madgrial Choir sings at the American Legion for the annual
Veterans Christmas Party.

The American Legion Motorcycle club presented the the village of
Wauconda with recognition of their support for returning Iraq Veterans.
The Village organizes a personal motorcade for the last miles of the
Veterans travel home.( Right to the Veterans door step.) The motorcade
is lead by the American Legion Motorcyclist. The idea was also
spearheaded by the group to honor returning Veterans.

Sandy Hartogh is the new Executive Director of the Wauconda
Chamber of
Commerce. Hartogh, who entered the position July 14, replaces Debra Ogorzaly,
who left the Chamber to focus on her role
as Wauconda's Economic Development Coordinator.

110 numbered ducks were dropped from the top of a fire engine
ladder to a small plate to determine who would win a prize. The

One of the biggest Civil War re-enactments in the north took place last
weekend at the Lake County Forest preserve near 176 & Fairfield

Recently added
members of the Wauconda Village government are sworn in at the June 7
village board meeting. New appointments include Daniel E. Quick (Village
Administrator/Superintendant of Police), Linda Krajniak (Assistant Village
Administrator/Director of Economic Development), Bill Metes (Director of
Building and Zoning), Zaida Torres (Village Treasurer, Director of
Finance, Director of Human Resources), David Geary (Director of Public
Works), Betty Harrison (Superintendant of Public Works-Administration),
Alex Pryde (Superintendant of Public Works-Operations), Jacqueline
Soccorso (Director of Environmental Quality), Joanne Brandt (Deputy
Clerk).

The flight simulator moved with the action in the video,
giving the riders the sensation of actual flight.

Wauconda Fest Early Friday night as people began to arrive to the Fest.

Larkdale Row is
one of the many roads that will be repaired using
money from the
$7 million referendum passed last year.

After writing her first
fast-paced series of novels Chicago author Laura Caldwell stopped by
Wauconda for a slower paced--and more familiar--event. She award-wining
novelist paid a visit to the Wauconda Area Library to talk about her novels

Wauconda High School track team
athletes Garrett Dorsey, Sean Lictherman, Santiago Lopez and Michael
Malisheski received a special graduation ceremony June 4. The graduates
missed the main ceremony because of a state competition.

Wauconda High School class of 2009 commencement was held on Saturday May
30th 2009. WHS graduated one of the most academically successful classes to
date. Seven Distinguished Senior Honor students, 32 Illinois State Scholars,
55 PSAE Achievement Award Winners, 62 High Honor Roll Awards, 53 Presidents
Education Awards.

Hats Off to the Class Of 2009. Hats and Tassels filled the air as the WHS
Graduates of 2009 were presented to the auditorium capacity audience
attending Saturdays Commencement Ceremonies.

WHS Dance Team Walked the Walk, Danced the Dance, all the way down
main street during the Memorial day parade. The Varsity Dance team had one
of the best years nailing down State level achievements at the State Meet. (Link)

Mathews Middle School in IslandLake (School District #118) will
be held their first 24 Hour Run to raise money for the American
Heart Association. Approximately 125 students divided into teams
and are currently running 1 mile every 1½ hours for a total of 15
miles. They began at 9 a.m. on Friday, May 15th and end at 9 a.m.
on Saturday. The students will be sleeping in tents (well actually they
do not sleep much) and there will be a campfire, food and lots

Drivers Take Notice: Red Light Cameras Are Coming To
Improve Intersection Safety In an effort to enhance safety at
some of Wauconda’s most dangerous intersections, the Village
Board has approved the installation of an automated traffic
enforcement system, also known as Red Light Cameras,
for various intersections within the community. The first
camera to become operational will be at the intersection of Route
176 & Main Street in early March 2009. Once the camera is active
there will be a 15 day period where only warning citations will be
issued.
An additional intersection being considered is US 12 &
Bonner.

The Wauconda VFW held it's Annual Craft show just down the
hall from the Wauconda Chamber EXPO 09. Visitors had the opportunity to find
all kinds of cool crafts and things.

Many Wauconda Residents checked out the Wauconda
Chamber of Commerce Expo February 28, and March 1 2009
(Estimate 2400 Attendees).

Wauconda Varsity Dance Team "Qualifies for State"!

Brandon McQuaid, a senior at Wauconda High School
was
selected through an audition process of hundreds of Lake and
Cook county students to attend the District 7 Illinois Music
Educators Association Conference Music Festival last
November. Brandon was ranked second chair in the district
Orchestra and qualified to perform at the All-State Music
Festival in January. After another audition in Peoria,
Brandon was ranked 3rd in the state for orchestral trombone
performance and was selected to play with the Honors
All-State Orchestra in Peoria, IL on January 30, 2009. T
his was a repeat trip for Brandon as he also qualified last year
as a junior.

Wauconda Area Queens represented at Pajama and Book

The Wauconda Area Queens collected 226 pajamas and 229
books

The Varsity cheerleaders took 3rd in the North Suburban
Conference
Championship's Prarie Division. They also
placed 1st at both the Grayslake North Invitational and the
Jacobs Invitational. Wauconda Cheerleaders took a Fourth
at The State Tournament.
